Synopsis
René Laloux’s last haunting animation is adapted from a novel by Jean-Pierre Andrevon and was a huge hit in France. Taking in genetic experiments and the importance of organic farming, it resonates today more than ever. Life in the idyllic paradise of Gandahar seems peaceful until the Mirror Birds report that villagers have been turned to stone. Sylvain is appointed to investigate and uncovers a deformed underground race and an oversized motherbrain, both the result of botched genetic experiments. Screening with La prisonnière (France, 1988, 7 mins)
